Speak at DockerCon San Francisco 2019 – Call for Papers is Open
Whether you missed DockerCon EU in Barcelona, or you already miss the fun, connections and learning you experienced at DockerCon – you won’t have to wait long for the next one. DockerCon returns to San Francisco on April 29 and extends through May 2, 2019 and the Call for Papers is now open. We are accepting talk submissions through January 18th at 11:59 PST.
Attending DockerCon is an awesome experience, but so is speaking at DockerCon – it’s a great way to get to know the community, share ideas and collaborate. Don’t be nervous about proposing your idea – no topic is too small or too big. And for some speakers, DockerCon is their first time speaking publicly. Don’t be intimidated, DockerCon attendees are all looking to level up their skills, connect with fellow container fans and go home inspired to implement new containerization initiatives. Hands-on Learning Opportunities at DockerCon EU

Speakers: Paul Sandoz and Mikael Vidstedt, Oracle
This session explains how OpenJDK 9 fits into the world of containers, specifically how it fits with Docker images and containers. The first part of the session focuses on the production of Docker images containing a JDK. It introduces technologies, such as J-Link, that can be used to reduce the size of the JDK and discusses the inclusion of class-data-sharing (CDS) archives and ahead-of-time (AOT) shared object libraries. The second part describes how the Java process can be a good citizen when running within a Java container and obeying resource limits. The presentation also covers the role of CDS archives and AOT shared object libraries that can be shared across running containers to reduce startup time or memory usage.

An Inside Look at the Docker Captains Program
Since launching the Docker Captains over a year ago, we’ve received a lot of questions: What is a Docker Captain? What do Captains do? How do I become a Captain? So who better to answer that than the Docker Captains themselves? At DockerCon Austin, we asked the Docker Captains to share their favorite thing about wearing the Captain’s hat.
What is a Captain?
Captains are Docker experts that are leaders in their communities, organizations or ecosystems. As Docker advocates, they are committed to sharing their knowledge and do so every chance they get!
What do Captains do?
Captains are advisors, ambassadors, coders, contributors, creators, tool builders, speakers, mentors, maintainers and super users and are required to be active stewards of Docker in order to remain in the program.
In addition to sharing their knowledge with the community, Captains provide insight and feedback to Docker. They have direct access to our technical teams, and are first to hear about and try upcoming features, product releases and big announcements.
What do Captains get?

The DockerCon Europe website has a fresh look and new sessions added. The DockerCon Review Committee is still working through announcing final sessions in each breakout track, but below is an overview of the tracks and content you’ll find this year in Copenhagen. In case you missed it, we have two summits happening on Thursday, October 19th. The Moby Summit, a hands-on collaborative event for advanced container users who are actively maintaining, contributing or generally interested in the design and development of the Moby Project and it’s components. The Enterprise Summit, a full day event for enterprise IT practitioners who want to learn how they can embrace the journey to hybrid IT and implement a new strategy to help fund their modernization efforts.

It’s a new year, and we are looking for new stories of how you are using Docker technology to do big things. Submit your cool hack, use case or deep dive sessions before the DockerCon 2017 CFP closes on January 14th.
To help with your submissions, we’ve answered the most frequent questions below and put together a list of tips to help get your proposal selected.

Alex is a Principal Application Developer with expertise in the full Microsoft .NET stack, Node.js and Ruby. He enjoys making robots and IoT-connected projects with Linux and the Raspberry PI microcomputer. He is a writer for Linux User and Developer magazine and also produces tutorials on Docker, coding and IoT for his tech blog at alexellis.io.
