From October through December, Docker User Groups all over the world are hosting a workshop for their local community! Join us for an Introduction to Docker for Developers, a hands-on workshop we run on Play with Docker.
This Docker 101 workshop for developers is designed to get you up and running with containers. You’ll learn how to build images, run containers, use volumes to persist data and mount in source code, and define your application using Docker Compose. We’ll even mix in a few advanced topics, such as networking and image building best-practices. There is definitely something for everyone!
Visit your local User Group page to see if there is a workshop scheduled in your area. Don’t see an event listed? Email the team by scrolling to the bottom of the chapter page and clicking the contact us button. Let them know you want to join in on the workshop fun!

As we continue to grow, we’ve been thinking of ways to better serve the Docker community and give more visibility and recognition to the people who don’t just organize events, but who also teach, mentor and volunteer in their community.
At each DockerCon, we host a Summit for our Meetup Organizers to make connections, review best practices, and give feedback on what we’re doing well and what we can do better. In Austin, the group reviewed their program as a whole, and came to the decision that the title Meetup Organizer didn’t fully encompass the complete role they played in their local community. After the conference, we continued the conversation, and they Continue reading
We’ve made it easier for you to find an event near you!
As we continue to grow, we’ve been thinking of ways to better serve the Docker community and give more visibility to all the different events and activities available and to the people who organize them. In collaboration with the Docker Community Leaders (formally known as Meetup Organizers), we’re excited to launch a brand new event platform to better highlight local Docker communities and the awesome events happening all over the world.
From meetups to DockerCon and Docker hosted webinars to workshops, you’ll be sure to find something just for you! Instead of going to multiple places to find event information, it’s now all here in one convenient location on docker.com.
Docker Local Chapters are user groups that host free, community-led gatherings for Docker enthusiasts typically in the form of a meetup. The topics and agenda are curated by each local chapter’s community leader. The result: learning and best practices for everyone. Instead of visiting meetup.com, you can now check out a city chapter page to see who the leaders, campus ambassadors, Continue reading
Adina-Valentina Radulescu, a DevOps/Integration Engineer for Pentalog Romania, has been organizing meetups for not one but two meetup groups.
In February of last year, Adina founded Docker Brasov and Docker Timisoara, and has since done an amazing job creating and fostering a sense of belonging in her community. This month, we’re happy to shine the community spotlight on Adina to learn more about her Docker story.
Tell us about your first experience with Docker.
The first time I heard about Docker was back in 2014. I played around with Docker and I was impressed with the simplicity of integration so I wanted to learn more. I was able to attend DockerCon EU in 2015 in Barcelona where I completed some labs and attended the talks to learn as much as I could about Docker. It was a powerful feeling.
Why did you start Docker Brasov and Docker Timisoara?
I wanted to have a Docker sharing exchange experience when I get back in Romania. I relocated from Timisoara to a beautiful mountain city, Brasov. In Timisoara, I knew people and companies. In Brasov, I knew almost no one. This is why I decided to start the two groups so I Continue reading

Mentorship is an important part of the Docker Community. Over the past few global event series like the Docker Birthday #3 and Mentor week last year, advanced users attended their local event and helped attendees work through training materials. As interest in mentorship continues to grow, we’re excited to grow our programs and provide more opportunities for the community to get involved.
New this year at DockerCon, we organized a Mentor Summit for attendees to learn the ins and outs of being an awesome mentor both in industry and in the Docker Community. Check out the talks below and learn how you can get involved.

Last week, we announced Docker Enterprise Edition (EE) and Docker Community Edition (CE) new and renamed versions of the Docker platform. Docker EE, supported by Docker Inc., is available on certified operating systems and cloud providers and runs certified Containers and Plugins from Docker Store. The Docker open source products are now Docker CE and we have adopted a new lifecycle and time-based versioning scheme for both Docker EE and CE.
We asked product manager and release captain, Michael Friis to introduce Docker CE + EE to our online community. The meetup took place on Wednesday, March 8th and over 600 people RSVPed to hear Michael’s presentation live. He gave an overview of both editions and highlighted the big enhancements to the lifecycle, maintainability and upgradability of Docker.
In case you missed it, you can watch the recording and access Michael’s slides below.

Yesterday marked International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to announce that we’re partnering with Girl Develop It, a national 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides affordable and judgment-free opportunities for adult women interested in learning web and software development through accessible in-person programs. Through welcoming, low-cost classes, GDI helps women of diverse backgrounds achieve their technology goals and build confidence in their careers and their everyday lives.
Girl Develop It deeply values community and supportive learning for women regardless of race, education levels, income and upbringing, and those are values we share. The Docker team is committed to ensuring that we create welcoming spaces for all members of the tech community. To proactively work towards this goal, we have launched several initiatives to strengthen the Docker community and promote diversity in the larger tech community including our DockerCon Diversity Scholarship Program, which provides mentorship and a financial scholarship to attend DockerCon. PS — Are you a women in tech and want to attend DockerCon in Austin April 17th-20th? Use code womenintech for 50% off your ticket!

We wanted to hear from the community about why they love Docker!
Wellington Silva, Docker São Paulo meetup organizer said “Docker changed my life, I used to spend days compiling and configuring environments. Then I used to spend hours setting up using VM. Nowadays I setup an environment in minutes, sometimes in seconds.”
Love the new organization of commands in #Docker 1.13!
