IDG Contributor Network: Machine learning takes a load off in network management

As networks become more software-driven, they generate vastly greater amounts of data, which provides some challenges: adhering to compliance and customer privacy guidelines, while harvesting the massive amounts of data—it is physically impossible for humans to tackle the sheer volume that is created. But the vast amounts of data also provide an opportunity for businesses: leveraging analytics and machine learning to gather insights that can help network management move from reactive to proactive to assurance. This doesn’t just mean a massive shift in technology because the human element won’t simply go away. Instead, by combining human intellect and creativity with the computing power AI offers, innovative design and management techniques will be developed to build self-improving intelligent algorithms. The algorithms allow networks to operate in a way that far outweighs networks of the past.To read this article in full, please click here

IDG Contributor Network: A software defined network requires reinventing IT devops

It’s common for a newly released application to have a few bugs in it. Customers may grumble, and IT service requests may increase, but life goes on and people will figure out how to work around the issues. The same cannot be said for a network software upgrade. If the network goes down, everything grinds to a halt, and service to employees and customers ceases. In the old hardware network model, an operator relied on three to four vendors to run annual or semiannual upgrades, and even that process put the network’s resiliency at risk.  As networks transition to a software model, they are supported by a myriad of best-of-breed partners and a more diverse ecosystem, increasing the frequency of updates and therefore the degree of network vulnerability. In addition, the technology implemented is less mature, resulting in greater network exposure to errors and risk.To read this article in full, please click here

IDG Contributor Network: Why your network needs the power of a platform

Evolving your network to have the characteristics of a platform is a core requirement of the Pervasive Network. The goal is to have a network that delivers greater value by reducing operational costs, while allowing for the rapid addition of new functionality and services to consumers, wholesale players or Industry X.0 – the emerging modern enterprise defined by cyber-physical production systems that combine communications, IT, data and physical elements. It is the enabler of many of the new technologies – 5G, VR and IoT – that are driving massive industry disruption and bringing new consumer services and industry solutions to market. To achieve this the network needs to adopt the characteristics of a successful software platform such as Google, Amazon or Facebook:To read this article in full, please click here

IDG Contributor Network: The promise of the pervasive network

The Pervasive Network is far more than a collection of technologies and processes; it is a promise to be fulfilled. A promise of delivering constant, reliable, smart, secure, intelligent and scalable bandwidth to power a future of ubiquitous IoT devices, augmented reality experiences, super smart AI systems and innovation in the form of new mobile services and applications yet to be imagined. These technologies will be the building blocks for improving the operational efficiency of every business and providing customer experiences that will make the difference in every company’s competitive position going forward.I have been on the customer and consultant side of the fence, and one thing has become clear to me: the network is not a commodity component, but a vital and strategic key to unlocking the potential of the innovation that we see in new services, experiences and opportunities. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
