U.S. Marshals warn against dual phone scams
The U.S Marshals are warning the public not to respond to two recent scams involving people fraudulently posing as Marshals making calls across the country.The first is a warning about a scam where the fraudster calls members of the public and alleging they, or their family members, have an active federal arrest warrant and demanding payment of fines.+More on Network World: Avaya wants out of S.F. stadium suite, not too impressed with 49ers on-field performance either+“Recently, there were reported attempts of a fraudulent caller who identified himself as a Deputy United States Marshal. This phony law enforcement officer informed the potential victims that warrants were being issued for them or their family member due to being absent from a federal grand jury they were previously summoned to appear before. The potential victims were then informed they could avoid arrest by paying a fine by electronic fund transfer or cashier’s check. Avaya wants out of S.F. stadium suite, not too impressed with 49ers either
Staring at a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Avaya told the court last week it wants out of the$350,000 annual payment for its San Francisco 49ers stadium suite and that the team’s recent miserable performance has made the suite harder to sell off. According to a Reuters report, the cost of the license for the suite, $350,000 due this month, is a burden on Avaya's estate and the company is seeking court permission to reject the agreement which was signed for 10 years.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here

Cisco today issued a security warning about a potential vulnerability in its NetFlow traffic monitoring device that could cause the system to lock-up. +More on Network World: Cisco tries to squash Smart Install security abuse+ Specifically, Cisco wrote: “A vulnerability in the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) decoder of the Cisco NetFlow Generation Appliance (NGA) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause the device to hang or unexpectedly reload, causing a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is due to incomplete validation of SCTP packets being monitored on the NGA data ports. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending malformed SCTP packets on a network that is monitored by an NGA data port. SCTP packets addressed to the IP address of the NGA itself will not trigger this vulnerability. An exploit could allow the attacker to cause the appliance to become unresponsive or reload, causing a DoS condition. Cisco Jasper grows Internet of Things reach, breadth
Nearly a year after it bought Jasper for $1.4 billion, Cisco this week strengthened the company’s Internet of Things reach by adding support for an emerging low-power WAN technology and expanding its partner programs further into automotive and healthcare. Cisco bought Jasper and its Control Center platform to firmly establish a hold in the IoT world. And indeed, it has. CEO Chuck Robbins noted in Cisco’s recent earnings call that “Jasper connects more than 40 million devices including over 12 million connected vehicles, and we're adding more than 1.5 million new devices per month. Space X to zoom two citizen astronauts to the moon
Space X today said two unnamed private citizens have paid the company a “significant deposit” to fly them to the moon and back to Earth.“We expect to conduct health and fitness tests, as well as begin initial training later this year. Other flight teams have also expressed strong interest and we expect more to follow. Verizon and Cisco team to bring 5G network pilot program to the masses
The 5G hype from the World Mobile Congress started early as Verizon said it would roll out pilot 5G network services on the back of Cisco communications gear.Verizon said its 5G pilot will be one of the world’s largest and will feature “several hundred cell sites that cover several thousand customer locations.”+More on Network World: Cisco execs foretell key 2017 enterprise networking trends+Verizon said it will begin offering 5G to pilot customers during the first half of 2017 in the following metropolitan areas: Ann Arbor, Atlanta, Bernardsville (NJ), Brockton (MA), Dallas, Denver, Houston, Miami, Sacramento, Seattle and Washington, D.C. Cisco deepens enterprise network virtualization, security detection of DNA suite
Cisco today announced a variety of hardware, software and services designed to increase network virtualization and bolster security for campus, branch office and cloud customers.The products, which include a Network Functions Virtualization branch office device and improved security network segmentation software, fall under Cisco’s overarching Digital Network Architecture plan.
