Apple's special media event last week wasn't solely focused on the upcoming Apple Watch. Per usual, Apple had a few tricks up its sleeve. Specifically, Apple surprised almost everyone when it introduced a new and incredibly thin 12-inch Retina MacBook.
What makes Apple's new MacBook so fascinating is that it only comes with one port – USB-C. Just one solitary USB port to rule them all, as many people have jokingly characterized it. In other words, there's no MagSafe, there's no Thunderbolt, and there are no additional USB ports. All of the ports we've come to know and love are nowhere to be found on Apple's new super light and stylish MacBook. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
Apple products are highly touted for being extremely sleek and well-designed. While some companies opt to use cheaper materials in an effort to preserve the bottom line, Apple has a penchant for sparing no expense when it comes to manufacturing. As a result, Apple not only opts to use the best materials available, but it's also willing to expend millions upon millions of dollars on advanced machinery and tooling processes that competitors either a) can't afford to use themselves or b) simply don't want to. Consequently, the build quality on Apple products is typically best in class.Apple's next big game-changing product is the Apple Watch, slated for release on April 24. During Apple's recent media event, the company, as it's prone to do, showcased a video detailing certain aspects of the Apple Watch manufacturing process. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here

In just a few days, Tim Cook will take the stage and give us the full scoop on all of the Apple Watch details that we've been yearning for. First and foremost, it stands to reason that we'll finally get a pricing matrix for the Apple Watch. Indeed, recent rumors about potential pricing for the device have been all over the map, with some claiming that the gold models of the Edition lineup may cost upwards of $10,000.As for other tidbits, a rumor from the French-language site iPhonote relayed an interesting Apple Watch rumor earlier today, namely that Apple will offer a personal engraving option for buyers. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
Over the past few days, a number of auto executives have chimed on reports that Apple is not-so-secretly working on developing an electric car.Seeing as how there is no shortage of detractors who think Apple has no business entering the auto industry, perhaps it's appropriate to begin with some of the more positive takes on Apple's rumored jump into an entirely different industry.First up, we have Volkswagon CEO Martin Winterkorn who reportedly is fully on board with both Google and Apple dipping their toes into automotive waters.

One of the longstanding questions surrounding the Apple Watch is how water resistant the device is going to be.As a quick aside, "waterproof" denotes a product that can be completely submerged under water for extended periods of time and still function as intended. So while a device filled to the brim with complex electronics, like the Apple Watch, isn't likely to be waterproof, having a degree of water resistance is extremely important. To that end, Apple CEO Tim Cook was recently in Germany where he reportedly spoke to some Apple employees and remarked that he wears his Apple Watch all the time, "even in the shower." The report comes courtesy of iGen.Fr which relayed the news earlier this week.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here

Apple today sent out invitations for an upcoming media event slated to take place on March 9 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The event will get underway at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.Likely on the agenda will be more information regarding the upcoming Apple Watch. While we know the device will launch sometime in April, we've yet to hear full pricing information for the product. And besides, the invitation subtitle reads, "Spring Forward", likely a not-so-subtle allusion to timekeeping.Apple may also use the upcoming event to introduce new products, such as an iPad Pro and, if we're lucky, perhaps a Retina MacBook Air. If we're really lucky, we may finally get information about upgrades to Apple's 21.5 inch iMac which hasn't been upgraded since late 2013.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
Everywhere you lookWhile Apple does not pay for product placement in TV shows and movies, that hasn't prevented Apple products from showing up in all kinds of places in the media. As for how it all happens behind the scenes, Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller once explained that Apple has a point person who works closely with Hollywood to get Apple products as much screen time as possible. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
In just a week's time, the news cycle around Apple has transitioned from the impending launch of the Apple Watch to reports that the company is actively working to develop an electric car.More than just an anonymously sourced rumor, a number of reputable publications have all reported that Apple is looking to get into the car industry. Tthe Wall Street Journal, for example, reported a few days ago that Tim Cook has already authorized the development of a 1,000 strong team to get things rolling.Stoking the Apple car rumors considerably is a recent report from Bloomberg which relays that Apple has designs to begin vehicle production as early as 2020. Now given that the car manufacturing process for a veteran automaker-- from design to production -- can often take upwards of 7 years, a five year time frame for a newbie like Apple seems curiously short. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
With all of the varying news reports claiming that Apple has plans to develop its own car, there has been a lot of debate regarding the wisdom behind such a strategy. While some Apple enthusiasts might understandably welcome an Apple-inspired car, there is certainly no shortage of arguments to make against Apple entering an entirely new industry.Falling in the latter category, former GM CEO Dan Akerson recently sat down for an interview with Bloomberg where he advised Apple that it has no idea what it's getting itself into.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
The Apple Watch will finally hit store shelves in April and we're finally starting to get more information regarding a) Apple's expectations for the device and b) just how expensive some of the models might be.Earlier today, The Wall Street Journal published an article relaying that Apple has ordered upwards of 6 million Apple Watch units from suppliers for the device's initial run.
Apple has asked its suppliers in Asia to make a combined five to six million units of its three Apple Watch models during the first quarter ahead of the product’s release in April, according to people familiar with the matter. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
Early last week, a somewhat bizarre Apple rumor emerged from out of nowhere. Specifically, rumor has it that Apple is seriously investigating the prospect of developing its own branded automobile. The wave of rumors began a few days ago when Business Insider posted a report claiming that Apple was working on an exciting project that was luring back former employees from Tesla.... We got an unsolicited email from an employee at Apple about "vehicle development" at the company. This person said Tesla employees were "jumping ship" to work at Apple. "Apple's latest project is too exciting to pass up," the person said. "I think it will change the landscape and give Tesla a run for its money."
Initially, it was easy to scoff at the report. Not only does the notion of Apple getting into the car business seem absurd on its face, but it's not as if Apple employees are exactly known for sending unsolicited emails about top secret research initiatives to tech publications. At most, the prevailing attitude was that Apple was simply keen on deepening their exploration into automotive-based software such as CarPlay. The very next day, Bryan Chaffin of Mac Observer chimed in with a Continue reading
At the close of trading on Tuesday, shares of Apple rested at $122.02 a share. Not only did the closing price represent an all-time stock high for the company, it also gave Apple a market cap of $710.74 billion. As a result, Apple is now the first U.S. company to close out the trading day with a market cap over $700 billion.Highlighting the financial behemoth that is Apple, here's how Apple's own market cap stacks up against some other notable tech heavyweights: Amazon has a market cap of $172 billion, Google has a market cap of $358 billion, while Microsoft has a market cap of $346 billion. In a broad sense, Tim Cook clearly knows what he's doing. Taking a closer look at Apple's stock price, however, one can't help but mention Apple's capital return program. When Apple began issuing dividends and engaging in stock buybacks, the company's share price saw an immediate boost. For starters, Apple as a dividend stock instantly became more appealing to large funds. More specifically, a number of large mutual funds are governed by rules which only allow them to invest in dividend paying stocks. Second, Apple's stock buyback program helps Continue reading
