Speaking to the immense demand Apple is forecasting for the iPhone 8, the Cupertino-based company recently inked a deal for a whopping 92 million OLED panels from Samsung. While reports from earlier in the week pegged Apple's OLED order in the 70 million range, a more recent from Digitimes relays that the figure has since been bumped up."Based on the contract," the report notes. "Samsung Display will ship 70-92 million small-size OLED panels to Apple in 2017... This means that about 30% of iPhone devices shipped in 2017 will come with curved OLED panels, given that Apple currently ships about 200 million iPhone devices a year."Hardly a surprise, many analysts are anticipating that the iPhone 8 will anchor the largest iPhone upgrade cycle in history. Not only will the iPhone 8 introduce a long overdue change to a form factor that has largely remain stagnant since 2014, but the current pool of iPhone owners in the market for an upgrade is larger today than it's ever been before. Taken together, demand for the iPhone 8 will presumably be off the charts. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here

We may have some bad news for anyone out there eagerly counting down the days until Apple releases its highly anticipated iPhone 8. Apple this week disclosed to a number of outlets, including John Gruber of Daring Fireball, that the company has not forgotten about its demographic of small but influential pro users. Quite the opposite, Apple says that's already working on a brand new Mac Pro that will feature a modular design, thereby addressing one of the longstanding complaints surrounding the company's current Mac Pro.In the interim, Apple also revealed -- at long last -- that it will be upgrading the current Mac Pro's internals, thereby giving users a little bit more bang for the buck. Specifically, the entry level Mac Pro will now feature 6 Xeon CPU cores and dual G500 GPUs while the pricier $3999 model will feature 8 CPU cores and dual D700 GPUs. While these spec upgrades aren't groundbreaking, it's a nice gesture from Apple given that the Mac Pro hasn't changed one iota since Apple originally introduced the machine back in June of 2013.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
About a year ago, Donald Trump publicly called for a boycott of Apple products following Apple's refusal to help the FBI access data from an iPhone 5c that belonged to one of the San Bernardino terrorists. To be fair, Apple was willing to help, but was unwilling to create a custom version of iOS that would have allowed the FBI to circumvent some of iOS' built-in security features.Apple's refusal to cower to the FBI bothered Trump to such an extent that he even referenced it during a stop on his campaign tour last year."First of all, Apple ought to give the security for that phone," Trump said. "What I think you ought to do is boycott Apple until such time as they give that security number."To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
After a steady dose of multiple betas, Apple today finally introduced a final version of iOS 10.3 for both iPhone and iPad users. While most iOS updates in between major numerical releases don't often bring much to the table, iOS 10.3 is certainly an exception. Most notably, iOS 10.3 introduces a new file system dubbed Apple File System -- or APFS for short -- which brings with it stronger encryption along with better optimization for accessing flash storage. That aside, there are more than a few consumer-facing features that are worth checking out, including new animations when opening up an app and a new "Find My AirPods" feature for those who enjoy Apple's relatively new wireless headphones. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
As is par for the course in the build-up to any new iPhone release, we've been seeing a lot of conflicting information surrounding Apple's highly anticipated iPhone 8. Over the past few weeks, we've seen quite a few reports claim that the iPhone 8 release date might be pushed all the way back to November due to a more complex manufacturing process. Most recently, a report surfaced just a few weeks ago claiming that iPhone 8 production might be delayed due to the time needed for STMicroelectronics (one of Apple's manufacturing partners) to produce enough 3D camera modules to meet what will unquestionably be remarkably high, if not unprecedented demand. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
The truth is that we really don't need more of a reason to get excited for Apple's iPhone 8. After all, Apple's next-gen iPhone will likely feature an OLED edgeless display, ushering in the first change to the iPhone form factor since 2014's iPhone 6. New display technologies aside, it's widely believed that the iPhone 8 will also feature facial recognition functionality, improved camera technology, improved internals and much more. That said, a new report via Bloomberg relays that Augmented Reality may very well be one of the iPhone 8's defining features. Apple is said to have assembled an incredibly strong and diverse team with expertise across all facets of the AR user experience. What's more, Apple may eventually be planning to complement the iPhone 8 with a pair of Augmented Reality based eyeglasses, echoing a number of previous rumors we've seen over the past few months. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here

Apple's rumor mill sometimes works in mysterious ways. With Apple's next-gen iPhone, for example, a sketchy report that surfaced in mid-2016 claimed that Apple's upcoming iPhone was such a huge upgrade that Apple was going to skip the iPhone 7s nomenclature and simply call its 2017 iPhone the iPhone 8. And from there, the iPhone 8 naming convention stuck.More recently, reports surfaced indicating that Apple was still planning on releasing three brand new iPhone models, an iPhone 7s, an iPhone 7s Plus, and a newly redesigned iPhone dubbed the iPhone 8. This of course never made much sense given that releasing an iPhone 8 alongside an iPhone 7s would not only cause widespread confusion, it might also stifle overall iPhone sales. After all, who would want to buy an iPhone 7s when an iPhone 8 is already out on the market. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
We're about six months away from Apple unveiling the iPhone 8 and the excitement has only continued to mount with each passing month. Of course, the big rumor surrounding Apple's next-gen iPhone is that it will feature an edge to edge display. In turn, it's widely believed that Apple has figured out a way to embed the Touch ID sensor into the display itself, though as we'll get into later, the iPhone 8 release date may not actually happen until November. That said, the main reason why everyone is so excited about the iPhone 8 is because Apple hasn't updated the current iPhone form factor since 2014's iPhone 6. Consequently, many current iPhone owners can't wait to get their hands on the first new iPhone design in nearly three years. While the ultimate design remains to be seen, that hasn't stopped some enterprising designers from churning out absolutely stunning iPhone 8 concepts that we can only hope will be similar to the real thing. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
In a massive data dump last week, Wikileaks released thousands upon thousands of highly secretive and sensitive CIA documents which detail the extent of the government agency's spying tools. Aside from interesting tidbits regarding the CIA attempting to eavesdrop on targets via Samsung HDTVs, the leaked documents also reference the CIA's efforts to hack into iOS devices. In fact, the CIA even has a specialized team devoted entirely towards coming up with security exploits for iOS devices, and in particular the iPhone. Even though the iPhone only accounts for less than 15% of global smartphone marketshare, Apple's iconic smartphone attracts a disproportionate amount of attention because it's proven to be quite popular among "social, political, diplomatic and business elites."To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here

Citing anonymous sources from within Apple's supply chain, MacRumors reports we may see a slew of new Apple products as early as next week. The report is particularly interesting given that we previously saw rumors pointing towards a new iPad rollout sometime in March. Curiously, though, the iPad rumor mill has been unusually quiet up until now.The report reads in part:
Apple is expected to announce new products later this month, most likely between Monday, March 20, and Friday, March 24, according to reputable supply chain analysts we spoke to who wish to remain anonymous. The analysts said the information is from its own sources and not based on other reports. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
Yesterday afternoon, Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a significant and prolonged outage that brought a number of popular websites and services down. By all accounts, Apple's 10th anniversary iPhone, a device that will presumably be called the iPhone 8, is going to be incredible. Echoing previous rumors, a new report from the Wall Street Journal -- which typically has a stellar record when it comes to Apple rumors -- claims that the aforementioned iPhone 8 will ship with a curved OLED display. This jibes with other reports indicating that Apple's next-gen smartphone will feature an edge to edge display with minimal bezels."Apple Inc. has decided to adopt a flexible display for one model of the new iPhone coming out this year," the Journal notes, "and has ordered sufficient components to enable mass production, people familiar with the matter said."To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
The iPad is undoubtedly a versatile device, but there's no getting around the fact that Apple's tablet has its fair share of limitations. A few months back, a UK sailor named David Carlin learned this the hard way after deciding it might be a good idea to navigate a 50-foot World War II boat he was steering via his trusty iPad.Things started out smoothly enough, but as relayed via a recent report in the Metro, navigation became tricky if not downright impossible once Carlin's iPad dropped its Wi-Fi signal. From there, a comedy of errors ensued as Carlin's boat, completely devoid of direction, blindly entered the UK's busiest shipping lane where it promptly crashed into a cargo ferry. From there, Carlin's boat was a goner and began to sink. Ultimately, Carlin had to make a Mayday call and wait for rescuers to help him out.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
