RPKI ARIN Agreement Update

In December of 2014 I wrote an article about  a legal agreement that was discouraging network operators from implementing an important Internet security function.  I am happy to report, the situation has improved: ARIN no longer requires operators explicitly accept a click-through agreement in order to access the Trust Anchor Locator (TAL). Resource Public Key […]

Entropy, vacuums, and visibility…

In the vacuum of two network engineers arguing, there are non-existent ideal situations where networks are built, grow or shrink congruently, and never have bugs.  In perpetuity.  Forever and ever.  Amen. The Forces of Evil From the moment we conceive of a network and through the end of it’s life, there are numerous competing forces […]

Cisco Enterprise NFV, DNA, IWAN and a bunch of other acronyms

So Cisco had some big announcements today. Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA).  Ohhh, sounds fancy. Let me put on something a little more formal before I get too involved in the post. So what are all these awesome acronyms, you may be wondering? Well basically we start with DNA, which is the overall ecosystem that […]

Netronome Brings Virtual Networking Hardware Offload To Busy CPUs

Netronome Agilio is a niche play for customers with specific compute requirements centered around OVS and, soon, Juniper Contrail. The majority of data center owners are likely to find that they just don't have the problems that Netronome is solving, but those that do will be pleased that Netronome exists.

Midokura’s MEM 5.0 Adds Insight To Their Virtual Networks

Network automation is a nascent discipline with the annoying problem of having to deal with legacy network devices designed in a bygone era while at the same time keeping up with the requirements of modern compute infrastructure. I see Midokura's MEM as one reasonable answer to the divide found between networking and automation.
