Capgemini to expand in North America with $4B acquisition of iGate

French IT services company Capgemini is to acquire iGate in the U.S. for US$4.0 billion, in a bid to expand its presence in the North American market.The deal will boost Capgemini’s revenue from North America by 33 percent to $4 billion, making the region the first to account for 30 percent of its revenue.The iGate acquisition also brings to Capgemini additional expertise in application and infrastructure services, business process outsourcing and engineering services. Capgemini also gets iGate’s clients, including key customers such as General Electric and Royal Bank of Canada, to whom it can now cross-sell its own services.After the acquisition, the merged entity will have an estimated combined revenue of €12.5 billion ($13.6 billion) in 2015, an operating margin above 10 percent and around 190,000 employees. NetBeez Review

NetBeez presented at Network Field Day 9, where they showed us their solution for distributed network performance monitoring. They gave the delegates a NetBeez agent to take home and test. I’ve run it for the last two months, and I’ve been happy with how it has performed.

Physical Install

The unit was supplied with a US power plug. I was contemplating using an adapter, but I didn’t have any spare power points near where I wanted to install it. Hmmm. Then I realised that the power connection is just a USB port anyway. The Ethernet cable needed to go into my SRX-110, so I wonder if…

Internet steady in Nepal after earthquake but last-mile connectivity an issue

The Internet is playing an important role in communications in Nepal after a devastating earthquake, as phone links were choked by the large number of people trying to connect.Internet service was disrupted after the earthquake hit near the capital city of Kathmandu on Saturday and cloud services provider Akamai said its traffic to the country saw a steep decline just after 6:00 UTC.Nepal Telecom survived the earthquake while smaller Internet service providers experienced outages, Internet performance monitoring company Dyn said. It is fairly common to hear about switch being non-blocking. It’s because almost all switches today are non-blocking. But what that means? When I asked people around me on what exactly non-blocking switch means, they were unable to get to the same conclusion. I was going through a lot of different internet places and vendor documents before I wrote this here, but, do not hesitate to add something in comments if you have different view on the subject. New Magento WAF Rule – RCE Vulnerability Protection

Today the Magento Security Team created a new ModSecurity rule and added it to our WAF rules to mitigate an important RCE (remote code execution) vulnerability in the Magento web e-commerce platform. Any customer using the WAF needs to click the ON button next to the “CloudFlare Magento” Group in the WAF Settings to enable protection immediately.

CloudFlare Magento Rule

Both Magento version 1.9.1.0 CE and 1.14.1.0 EE are compromised by this vulnerability. CloudFlare WAF protection can help mitigate vulnerabilities like this, but it is vital that Magento users patch Magento immediately. Select and download the patch for SUPEE-5344.

Starbucks hit by major computer failure

Starbucks suffered what appears to be a major computer system failure late Friday.Stores in Boston, New York, San Diego and other cities appeared to be affected, judging from hundreds of customer and employee posts on Twitter. Some stores are giving away drinks, are only accepting cash, or have closed, according to the messages.In San Francisco, an employee at one store said they were giving away free drinks, though he did not offer many other details.
